OUR KOMO IS READY FOR ACTION
Early Friday morning, August 19th, 2011, a truck hauling our new Komo CNC machine pulled up to the front of our building and ever since then our facility has been buzzing with excitement!
Moving a machine that weighs over 9 tons took expert care and coordination, but with the help of several forklifts and the guidance of our maintenance team, the Komo finally arrived in her new home. The journey of the Beast’s arrival was even featured in our local newspaper. But, getting her in the building was the easy part.
Once the Komo was in position, our maintenance team began diligently working to get her hooked up and working properly. Then, when everything was in place, the Komo technician arrived to answer questions and perform a demonstration by giving the machine a good test run. Now, after hours of preparation and training, everything (and everyone!) is ready to take on the toughest projects.

Discovering the wonders of nature is as easy as sitting in a field, surrounded by bison.
On August 6th, Airmate employees and their families were invited to enjoy an outing at Wild Winds Buffalo Preserve in Fremont, Ohio. Riding in wagons and a modified truck bed, the Airmate family sat amongst the herd and learned about the preserve’s 200+ bison and their extraordinary abilities. The guides explained that bison can reach a speed of 35 mph in only three steps and can vertically jump 6 feet. After the tour, everyone enjoyed a yummy lunch of buffalo and noodles and a chance to walk around the preserve’s facility.

Best Wishes on your retirement, Deb!
It is with both joy and sadness that Airmate announces the retirement of Deb Campbell, who has been a loyal member of the Airmate team for 29 years. Deb’s last day of service at Airmate was August 3, 2011.
When she first began working at Airmate, Deb worked in finger lifting. At that time, each piece was created by following a pattern and cut out by using a manual router. It was “prehistoric,” said Deb and much different than Airmate’s current computer operated process. When Airmate started offering part decoration, Deb took a position working in the print room. At first, the silk screens were washed out by taking them to the car wash. Later, a wash out location was constructed outside Airmate’s facility. Deb remembers cleaning out silk screens during the winter time. “We would put on our winter jackets and go wash the screens out outside,” recalled Deb. Airmate has since moved from “prehistoric to the modern age,” explained Deb, with numerous renovations and continual development.
Deb is grateful for the people she has met and the friendships she has made while working at Airmate. “You have a bond,” explained Deb. While working at Airmate, Deb also met her husband. Thirteen years later they were married.
Now that she is retired, Deb plans to use her time to transition into her new home. “My husband bought a new house last year and we hope to move into it by next year,” explained Deb. The process will keep her busy as she has to both clean and downsize. “I’m somewhat of a pack rat. I keep everything,” explained Deb. “I’m kind of a Girl Scout-‘Be prepared.’ You never know what you’ll need.”
In whatever spare time she can find, Deb plans on visiting the local Humane Society to spend time “mingling with the animals.” Deb loves animals and dreams of someday building her own no-kill shelter. “That would be next to heaven,” described Deb. “If I had that I wouldn’t care about anything else.”
Airmate will miss Deb’s passion and smile, but is excited for her as she begins this new chapter.

Airmate is excited to welcome Holly Neubig to the team!
Airmate Company is excited to welcome Holly Neubig to the Airmate Team. Holly is working with the accounting team and will be focusing on accounts payable and receivable, as well as functioning as Airmate’s payroll administrator. Holly has over 10 years of experience in the accounting field. “After high school, I decided I should go into cosmetology,” explained Holly. “I have my cosmetology license, but I ended up enjoying the bookkeeping side of things more.” She worked at a CPA firm for several years. “I processed accounts receivable and some accounts payable,” said Holly. Client relations was a big portion of her job there as well. Coming to Airmate was a move she needed to make for her family. “I wanted a position in Bryan because that’s where I live, so that’s what brought me to Airmate,” said Holly. Her primary mission for her role at Airmate is to streamline and organize Airmate’s accounting processes. “I’m very organized,” said Holly. “It’s good because I’m always on top of everything.”
Organization isn’t the only thing Holly is passionate about. Holly loves spending time with her husband Chris, daughter Ava and step daughter Zoe. Being a good mom is a huge mission and responsibility for Holly. “Down the road I just want to look back and think, ‘I’ve done everything that I should have done,’” explained Holly. Ava likes to spend time with her mommy, too. “When I’m in the car my daughter doesn’t like me to turn on music,” said Holly, “[because] she likes it when we talk.”
Besides her daughter, The Young and the Restless and scary movies are on Holly’s list of favorite things. Every day she records an episode of The Young and the Restless. “Then at 8:30 I get to watch it,” said Holly. When it comes to scary movies, The Strangers, 30 Days of Night and The Descent are all movies she recommends. “I will always watch any ‘cheesy’ scary movie from the 80’s or 90’s,” Holly confessed. “I love to watch them, but only when my husband is home. Otherwise I am scared to death!!!” But when it comes down to it, her daughter is still her number one favorite. Her dreams and wishes revolve around Ava. “I never traveled much,” explained Holly. “[I] would like to take my daughter to Disney sometime though to see the Princesses!!! That’s on my ‘to do list’.”
With her organizational skills and accounting knowledge, Holly is a wonderful addition to the Airmate team. We are so glad to have her on board!
For some, what they love and what they succeed at are one and the same. For the creators of Kiwi Lane Designs, their love and passion for scrapbooking has grown into a business dedicated to providing a creative pool of fun and inspiration.
Kiwi Lane was born from the inspiration of three women who had found themselves caught in a creative rut. While scrapbooking with her daughter-in-law Susan, Debbie began experimenting with border designs and came up with the first Designer Template. From that moment, Debbie, Susan and Shiloh began creating template designs that save money and stimulate creativity. “We have been addicted scrapbookers ourselves for a long time and we wanted to come up with a way that made scrapbooking less overwhelming and fun for others again!” explained Susan. This desire to produce easy, creative scrapbooking layouts for others to use led to the development of a different style of scrapbooking. “We have developed a new process for scrapbooking which we call ‘Framing’,” said Susan. “We create and sell Designer Templates that help you simplify scrapbooking and create beautiful layouts.”

Kiwi Lane Designer Templates show you what your layout will look like before you start cutting.

With Kiwi Lane Designer Templates you can create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind layout!
Doing what they love definitely has its benefits. “We love working out of our homes and setting our own deadlines and goals,” said Susan. “And we love seeing the excitement on the faces of our customers when we show them what our Designer Templates can help them create!” However, there are also a few drawbacks. Susan explained, “Since [our business] is personally owned and we work via the web, we often face the challenge of learning when to stop working in a day.” The overwhelming success of their templates forced Kiwi to find a supplier who could manufacture each template quickly and at a reasonable price. Their search led them to Airmate. “Airmate produces our Designer Templates for us! They were a huge blessing to come across and we enjoy working with them!” stated Susan. “We are very pleased with Airmate and the service they provide. They have gone above and beyond by looking into costs and supplies to help our company grow! They have worked patiently with us throughout the entire process.”
You can find Kiwi Lane Designer Templates on the web at www.kiwilane.com. Be sure to check back often, as the creativity never stops. “We have a lot of ideas and plans in mind for the future and we are excited to continue to move forward!” said Susan. “We have seen what hard work and commitment can accomplish in a short time.” Airmate is excited to see Kiwi Lane continue to grow as they inspire creativity and energize others to do the same.

Invention lowers your driving bill
Local firm provides parts for revolutionary fuel-saving device
By MARCI HUMMEL
Times Business Editor
Imagine an invention that boosts car and truck mileage by 20 to 40 percent or more, and eliminates nearly all emissions.
Imagine this invention costs less than $1,000 and that much of it is manufactured in Bryan.
The hydrogen generator, or HHO, is the brainchild of Ohio native Robert C. Volk, chief executive officer of Transitional Technologies LLC of Concord, Calif.
Volk and his wife, Deena, visited Bryan Monday to consult with Airmate President Carol Schreder and Sales Manager Travis Smith. Airmate is the sole producer of the plastic components of the HHO.
Volk said the hydrogen generator takes distilled water from a reservoir and electricity from a vehicle’s battery or alternator and then, through the process of electrolysis, produces hydrogen and oxygen that is drawn into a vehicle’s engine. The HHO needs no infrastructure, such as hydrogen refueling stations, and eliminates the danger of storing a tank of hydrogen on a vehicle.
Because it utilizes distilled water, the HHO’s main byproduct is steam, which actually degreases and cleans the vehicle’s engine.
Volk came up with the idea for the HHO a few years ago and wrote a book about how to build this amazing invention. But because he immediately was inundated with requests, Volk said he realized the advantages of assembling this miracle product himself and contracted with other U.S. companies to produce the HHO’s components.
He said Airmate submitted the lowest bid for the HHO’s plastic inner cell housing, and he promptly asked if the company also would produce a plastic end plate.
“All parts are cut and manufactured in this country,” said Volk, adding he uses only U.S.- manufactured stainless steel. It is the highest quality available and does not rust. That is important since the HHO uses water in the generation process. Volk said he deals with stainless steel producers in Ohio and Illinois.
Volk’s first HHO became available to the public in October 2009, and the first run of 100 sold out in three days. Volk said he actually sold 115 and put out a frantic call to Airmate for more parts. “I had them in a week,” he said, noting Airmate’s were the first products to arrive.
Volk said demand for HHOs has since “taken off.”
Much of the world — including the automotive industry — has noticed. Volk said he expects to have an HHO unit for trucks ready by the end of September or early October. He said the first trucker to take advantage of the HHO operated a 1995 Freightliner, for which he bought the largest automobile unit available. The truck’s mileage instantly improved 50 percent, from 6 to 9 mpg.
“He got on his CB, and told everybody about it. It really took off (from there),” Volk said.
Volk said he is working with U.S. and other automobile manufacturers as well as commercial vehicles, the marine industry and other industrial applications such as diesel generators.
The potential for the HHO is nearly limitless, especially since the technology is only about three years old. Volk compared the HHO to the early computer industry, “and we’re excited to be at the forefront,” he said.
“This probably wouldn’t have happened 20 years ago,” he said and credited the Internet with enabling demand for his product to grow so quickly.
Volk said he started working on the project in late 2007 and hand built the first model, which he installed in a full-size van.
“Gas was about $4.50 a gallon in California at the time,” he said, and the van’s fuel consumption improved 40 percent from 10 mpg to 14 mpg.
He currently is exporting the HHO to the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada—“about 20 countries” in all, he said.
The biggest international draw is the generator’s ability to lower emissions to almost nothing. Volk described exhaust from vehicles equipped with an HHO as smelling “fresh,” with no smoke, no smell and nearly zero carbonmonoxide. He said emissions are so low vehicles with an HHO will exceed California’s emission standards for the next 20 years.
“If I can work with (automotive) manufacturers, I will include an electronic chip to work with the computers in vehicles,” he said, noting the computer systems of Hyundai and Ford vehicles are very compatible with the HHO, as are older vehicles.
Volk would neither confirm nor deny that he has been asked to produce an HHO generator for a Corvette owned by TV host Jay Leno, but did admit he has been contacted by a retired aviation industry engineer.
Transitional Technologies currently is selling about 100 HHO kits per month, but Volk said he expects orders to reach 1,000 or even a million per month in the near future. “I’m in negotiations right now,” he said but could not elaborate since nothing is yet finalized.
The units range in price from about $500 to $800, which means vehicle owners can realize a 20-40 percent improvement in gas consumption for less than $1,000. For more information about the HHO or to order a kit, go to www.hhokitsdirect.com.
Volk said the kits come with a 30-page instruction manual and free tech support.
When asked if installing the kit will affect vehicle warranties, Volk suggested checking with your vehicle’s manufacturer. However, he said owners should be protected by the 1975 Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a federal statute that governs warranties on consumer products and provides protection from disclaimers.
Transitional Technologies currently consists of Volk and Deena plus their son, daughter and son-in-law. “But we’ll probably have 20 (employees) in the next couple of months,” he said.
